It's all right, it's a difficult curse.

I take it those are the papers that you found? I wonder what my grandfather was thinking putting them inside the piano.

Yeah. It has its moments, but I'd left these in the Victrola for safe keeping. That one's dead easy.

There are other places to put papers for safe keeping other than cursed musical instruments... *a pause*

Can I see them?

Oh, yeah, of course. *a rustle of passing papers*

I didn't really look at them, just noticed the name and put them away. But they're clean, I did check.

*a quiet laugh* No wonder I couldn't find the provenance it's been sitting in the piano. *a rustle* along with the ones for the rest of the instruments in there and two paintings I don't think I've ever seen and...

Safe as houses, yeah? That's what curses are properly for, at least in the traditional sense.

Hm? Oh, yes, I suppose you're right. Well, you are right, it's your field, but you know what I meant. *a pause*

*the rustle of paper* It's a deed. At least I think it's a deed.

I think I saw the words "Ottery St Catchpole"...

Looks like a deed to me. ... If it turns out you own the land the Burrow's on, does that make me a class jumper?

Joking, joking. The property's been in the family for longer than anyone can remember.

So it is by the Burrow. What's that? "The Rook"? I've never heard of it.

The Rook? It's a house, looks a bit like one. Been abandoned for ages, not even any ghosts interested in it.

... You own the Rook. *a guffaw*

Merlin, Luna, you own a house less than six miles from the Burrow. I'm not sure you want to tell Mum this.

Six miles from the Burrow?

*a long pause* I love your mother and your father, but... they wouldn't want us to move there. Would they? Who even knows what state it's in.

Less. *a laugh* They won't expect it, yeah? But that won't prevent Mum from "wishful thinking."

We can not tell your mother. Or father. I mean, we should probably go and see it and what needs to be done upkeep wise, but really they don't have to know about it. Not right now at least.

Do they?

Luna, it's fine. It's your house. At least we think it's your house, this might be an invalid deed superseded by a later document.

Look, they might like it, at least I'm sure Mum would like it, but it's not going to happen. You have this house and that place has been empty since before Dad was born, it's not like a set of curtains will "freshen it up", yeah?

But tell them or not. It's your house, I defer to your judgment.

That's true, it might not be mine. How do we go about finding that out?

Right. I'm sure that it will definitely need more than a set of curtains.

It's a bit premature to be telling anyone that we've found a deed to the... Rook inside a cursed piano, I think. We can decide what's best after we find out if it's ours.

So we don't tell anyone yet. Ministry should have it on record. Or the county office. I could look into it for you.

It might need to be torn down and entirely rebuilt, assuming you want to rebuild it. There's no telling if preservation spells were used.

Please? Otherwise I'll spend half my time trying to figure that out and have no time to try and streamline things at the Q.

I certainly hope not. That wouldn't be cost effective at all.

[info]upuaut

Of course. I'll go to the county office tomorrow. No point in waiting and I have the time.

Nothing's certain. It could have dry rot or a bundimun infestation. Doxies at the least. That's assuming it doesn't have any cursed furniture of its own and who knows what else.

It's not exactly an exciting prospect, is it?

It's sensible.

And no, not from a land owner point of view. If you needed the house, or if the property was close enough to annex to this one, that would be different. Unless you want a vacation home in scenic Devon.

I think I'd prefer a vacation house on the coast somewhere as opposed to less than six miles from your parents.
